Disadvantaged Groups

Woodcarving

There are many traditions of woodcarving in Vietnam, ranging from the spiritual sculptures of the central highlands, the carved beams of villages houses in the north, and the religious sculptures of pagodas. The making of carved furniture and objects has become a specialized industry for many villages in Vietnam.

Wood items in Craft Link shops are from a workshop in Hue. The group consists of  22 disadvataged artisans. The group is managed by Mr. Vo Van Du, a disadvantaged person himself . He has a great effort in supporting others in the group by teaching them how to make wooden carving products. Items made by this group are mainly on the home decoration range : bookends, bookstands, hangers etc… and home furniture items. Craft Link has started helping them since 1996. Through Craft Link’s channels of distribution, products from this group are widely introduced to customers oversea.
